Our Story

Next Chance was founded in 2019 with a simple but powerful mission: to provide safe, supportive sober living homes for women seeking recovery from substance use disorder. What began as a small limited liability company quickly grew into something much bigger—shaped by the real needs, resilience, and potential of the women we serve.

In September of 2024, Next Chance was honored by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with a citation from the State House of Representatives, recognizing our unwavering dedication to recovery support. At that time, we were operating five recovery homes and had earned the trust of local treatment providers, recovery advocates, and municipal partners, including the Massachusetts Alliance of Sober Homes (MASH).

By the end of 2025, Next Chance had supported more than 450 women on their journey to recovery. During that time, we had also developed a unique recovery home model centered on sustainable life skills and personal growth, where residents engage in hands-on activities such as gardening, homesteading, caring for livestock, and educational programming—delivering experiences that foster responsibility, confidence, and a renewed sense of purpose.

As our impact grew, so did our understanding that safe housing alone was not enough. Many women in recovery still face significant barriers to long-term stability, including limited access to transportation, employment, financial resources, and healthcare. To meet these challenges head-on, founder Lana Atamian—alongside a dedicated board of directors—established Next Chance Inc. as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

This transition allows us to expand our reach, raise critical funds, and partner with community organizations to deliver the holistic support women need to truly thrive.

“My goal has always been to create a nurturing environment where women in recovery can rebuild their lives,” says Lana. “Becoming a nonprofit enables us to serve more women and provide the resources necessary for lasting recovery and independence.”

Today, Next Chance continues its commitment to safe, sober housing while expanding supportive services that empower women to build stable, independent futures. We invite our community, partners, and supporters to join us as we grow—transforming lives and creating real, lasting change.
